Lumir J. Prucha WWII Overseas Photo Collection

My name is Rick Prucha and I have been researching my father's (Lou Prucha) military history for the past few years, during which time I've uncovered various pictures, letters and documents. The images below represent my attempt to scan and organize those photos from my father's overseas tour of duty, taken between September 21, 1944 and September 8, 1945 while he was stationed in France during WWII. The original photos varied in size; the smallest being about 1x1 inch and the largest almost 4x5 inches. I also scanned the back of any photos that had a caption. Lumir "Lou" Joseph Prucha (April 29, 1917 - January 16, 1981), Military service highlights: Lou enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps on December 9, 1941. He graduated his pilot's training program as a member of Class SE-43-D on his 26th birthday, April 29, 1943. Lou continued A-20 training in the states along with gunners Sgt. Leland C. Ferguson and T. Sgt. Glenn C. Wilson until September, 1944 when they were assigned to the 668th Bombardment Squadron (Light), 416th Bomb Group of the 9th Air Force, just as the group was moving from England to station A-55 at Melun, France. Lou flew 37 combat missions (17 with Lee Ferguson, 14 with Glenn Wilson, the rest with other gunners) between December 6, 1944 and April 26, 1945, most often piloting "Sugar Baby" (plane 5H-S, serial number 41-39274, tail number 139274), an A-26B model "Invader". Lou was awarded the European, African, Middle Eastern Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars; 6 Oak Leaf Clusters and 1st Silver Oak Leaf Cluster to his Air Medal; the American Theatre Ribbon; and Victory Medal. He returned to the sates in September, 1945, was honorably discharged on January 14, 1946 with the rank of 1st Lieutenant, and remained a member of the Nebraska National Guard and Air Force Reserve until 1951 attaining the rank of Captain.
